We're Tuk & Tide
Born in Weligama Bay, we're a small crew of local surfers and tuk-tuk drivers who never could tell the two apart. Board under your arm, three wheels to the break — that's the whole idea.
Easygoing and salt-cured, we run on early swells and good company. Come for a lesson, grab a board, or load up for a coast-long surf safari. However you ride, you ride with us.

Do I need to know how to swim or have surfed before?
Not at all. Total beginners and non-surfers are exactly who we love teaching. We start you in the gentle whitewater of Weligama Bay, where it's shallow and forgiving, and a coach stays in the water with you the whole time. Basic water confidence is plenty.
When is the best time to surf the south coast?
The south-coast season runs roughly November to April. Weligama Bay stays friendly for beginners through most of it, with warm water year-round — no wetsuit needed, just board shorts and sunscreen. Mornings are usually the cleanest.
What's included in a lesson?
Everything you ride with: soft-top board, leash and rashguard, plus a short theory brief and hands-on in-water coaching. Just bring sunscreen, water and a smile — we've got the rest covered.
Do you pick up from my hotel?
Yes — free pickup anywhere around Weligama in our tuk-tuk, board strapped to the roof. Coming from Mirissa or Ahangama? Transfers are easy to arrange on request, just tell us where you're staying.
What if there are no waves or it rains?
The ocean calls the shots, so we keep it relaxed. If conditions don't play along, you reschedule for free — and since there's no deposit to book, you never lose a thing.
How do I pay?
Cash or card, whatever suits you. There's no deposit to reserve a session — just message us on WhatsApp to lock in your time, and settle up on the day.
Are the instructors certified and insured?
Yes. Our coaches are experienced, certified local surfers who grew up on this coast and know every shifting sandbank. We keep groups small so you get real attention and ride with peace of mind.
Can kids learn?
Absolutely — kids' lessons start from around age seven. We scale the board, the pace and the patience to suit young groms, so it stays safe, playful and full of stoke.
